Photography, etc.

Photography within the Cathedral, with a hand-held camera and for non-professional purposes is free.

Since, unusually among cathedrals these days, we make no entrance charge, we do welcome a donation of £5 per person for all who visit the Cathedral. We receive no state aid and are therefore dependent on the generosity of our visitors to support the life and witness of the Cathedral. We are responsible for the upkeep of this 800 year old building, which is one of the most important ancient buildings in Wales, and the Shrine of David, our National Saint.

If you wish to use a tripod, we charge £10, and, due to Health and Safety restrictions, it is necessary to arrange permission in writing from the Dean in advance. Advance permission, also with a fee, is required for photography for professional purposes. Please send an email to

No photography is allowed in the Cathedral Library.
