Congratulations to Clare and Gill Rabjohns who completed their pilgrimage to St Davids Cathedral on the 10th of September.
Clare and Gill walked over 100 miles from Swansea to St Davids to raise money for the restoration of the medieval Shrine of St David. On arrival at the Cathedral they were greeted by the Dean of St Davids, the Very Reverend Jonathan Lean. To date they have raised £1,090.00. To sponsor Clare and Gill's walk please visit www.justgiving.com/Swansea-to-StDavids. To find out further information about the Restoration Appeal please click here.
On the 11th of September 2010 the Friends of St Davids Cathedral launched an appeal to raise £150,000 to restore the medieval Shrine of St David.
The shrine dates back to the 12th century and was an important pilgrimage destination for medieval pilgrims.
The destruction of the Shrine during the Reformation caused a steep decline in this important religious practice. However, throughout periods of religious and political turmoil pilgrims have continued to visit the site.
The restoration of the Shrine will return the relics of St David to their rightful place in the Cathedral. It will offer visitors and pilgrims an opportunity to pray at the Shrine and to give thanks to God for the example of St David.
With the restoration of the Shrine it is hoped that St Davids Cathedral will once again become the most important place of pilgrimage in Wales.
We need your help to raise the £150,000. Every gift, whether large or small, will make a difference to this important appeal. The message of St David is one of compassion, faithfulness and joy. Please be part of the legacy of St David in the 21st century. It is hoped that the Shrine will be fully restored and dedicated on St David's Day 2012.
For further information and details of how to support the restoration of the Shrine please click here.
