Education & Pilgrimage Centre

The cathedral's Education & Pilgrimage Centre, Tŷír Pererin, was officially opened by the Bishop of St Davids on Monday 4 March 2013.

Located on Quickwell Hill in the city of St Davids, the new centre occupies a former Victorian junior school which was closed in the 1960s and then used as a school canteen.  The school has remained empty since 2000 and has now been restored by the Friends of the Cathedral as a multifunctional centre, returning the building into use as an educational facility for the cathedral and community.

The purpose of the centre is to offer extended hospitality to visitors to the cathedral, with particular emphasis on educational and spiritual activities around the Shrine of St David and pilgrimage.

School Visits

We offer a varied programme of educational outreach to children and young people. This allows for groups to engage with the various facets of the cathedral's life in conjunction with areas of the National Curriculum. Themed seasons and days use the skills of inspirational artists and educational practitioners as well as the local community to engage with Christian, historical and Welsh heritage. There are programmes on offer such as Megastructures and Maths as well as History Alive!

We offer space and opportunity for many to reflect on their pilgrimage through life. The centre works with the cathedral in its mission to offer worship, prayer, hospitality and healing as a true reflection of the life of St David. There are many ways in which visitors, adults, children and pilgrims can engage with the concept of pilgrimage. We have hosted INSET days for school staff, PCC away days and parish groups.
We offer many days for groups including youth groups and Sunday schools, deanery chapters and parish groups. We offer space for prayer, reflection and refreshment. We plan and tailor days to cater to your needs. We can lead a group in a walking pilgrimage or reflections in the centre. We can work in many ways to accommodate your requirements.

All Hallows' Eve

Could you consider becoming a 'Godparent' to one of the thousands of schoolchildren who come here each year on trips?

To support the work of our Education and Pilgrimage Centre in encouraging and facilitating school trips and visits around areas of the National Curriculum and to experience the wonders of the Cathedral itself we are seeking financial support for this work.

If you are able to give £50 to cover the costs of a child visiting, and to pray for the children who visit here you will receive a postcard from your 'Godchild' explaining what they have done and learned and thanking you for your support.

This is a vital work and once which needs you help.

Can you be a Godparent?
