Welcome / Croeso to our new St David’s Cathedral Library Blog!

St Davids Cathedral Library
St Davids Cathedral Library

We now, at last, have some time to work on implementing the idea we had about 2 years ago. We are hoping that a Blog will provide the Library with a facility providing more scope than the 280 characters of Twitter, while being less than a full lecture or hard copy publication. There will be the opportunity to share some research while it is work-in-progress; coverage of some of the special Rare Books in our eclectic Collection; information on our exhibitions, and other issues.

There will be Guest Bloggers from time to time. These will include some of our Cathedral home team, as well as distinguished and interesting external “speakers”. It is envisaged that Guest Bloggers may also include some of the researchers who use our Collection from time to time.

We will also seek to link Blog entries to our Twitter feed @StDavCathLib and to the St Davids Cathedral Library webpage.

Our present Library Collection in situ dates from the Reformation in the 16th and 17th Century in this country. This was a period of immense theological change, alongside political, economic and social change. It was also a time of technological change. It was a combination of all these forces that enabled reformers and translators to spread the word of God in languages that people could understand and in formats that were accessible. We feel it is likely that those who embraced the new-fangled technology of printing, would have nowadays taken to social media to spread the word.
