Dewi's Acre in Spring

The sun was shining for our first weekend volunteering sesh yesterday! Thanks to the 10 brilliant volunteers who came down to help including new faces & some little ones. Loads of weeding done, squash & pumpkins planted, herbs & wildflowers from @keepwalestidy in beds, raspberries from Lower Treginnis - Farms for City Children in the ground, and we even got to sample our first produce ... some lovely radishes! Lovely community atmosphere and a great way to spend a Saturday morning. Everyone is welcome & more dates for future events will be shared shortly. For more info, email hello@dewisacre.org.uk. Hope to see more of you soon.

The volunteers

When we began creating the #communitygarden we had a lot of clearing to do. ‍We had to choose what plants stayed and what had to go in order to allow space for growing fruit & veg and to allow more light into the garden. They weren't rushed decisions. It's great now to see some of the old plants we left, some that we pruned heavily, now with fresh buds & shoots going strong. The 1st photo shows what was a massive old buddleia that we gave a serious 'haircut' to, to let light in and create more planting space. The new shoots are coming through which will become a plant with wonderful bright flowers & loved by butterflies in particular. And amongst it was a wild honeysuckle which will soon be smelling amazing and is again fantastic for butterflies, bees, moths & bees. And then the 2nd photo shows some of the new plants. Seeds germinating in our raised beds which soon we hope to be wonderful crops of vegetables for our community. This garden is an amazing mix of plants and we hope to attract an amazing mix of visitors & volunteers too, old and young, to be a part of its journey. More dates for volunteering events to be posted soon but feel free to contact us at hello@dewisacre.org.uk if you want to know more.
