APOLLO5’sThe Evening Primroseis a programme of striking contrasts, bringing together music spanning five centuries. A strong English thread runs throughout, from the Renaissance artistry of Thomas Tomkins and William Byrd to the lyrical voices of Gerald Finzi and Benjamin Britten, alongside contemporary composers Alec Roth and Piers Connor Kennedy. Works by Monteverdi, Lassus and Duruflé provide rich continental colour and expressive depth. In the second half, folk melodies and beloved classics gently turn us toward home. Performed with their signature blend and poise, APOLLO5 reveal the beauty of harmonic style across countries and centuries, echoing Britten’sThe Evening Primrose as ‘the sun sinks in the west’.
